USE OF CASSAVA BY-PRODUCTS IN ANIMAL FEED PRODUCTION 

1. Some by-products of cassava:

Processing cassava to obtain starch or produce other products creates a number of by-products, including:

• Cassava residue: It is the remaining residue after separating starch, accounting for about 60-70% of the weight of cassava tubers. Cassava residue has low protein content (about 1-2%), high fiber (about 40-50%) and some vitamins and minerals.
• Cassava peel: Accounts for about 10-15% of the weight of cassava tubers. Cassava peels have low protein content (about 1%), high fiber (about 50-60%) and some vitamins and minerals.
• Wastewater: The wastewater discharged during cassava processing, contains some organic substances and minerals.

2. Application in animal feed production industry:

• Cassava residue:

- Can be used as raw food for cattle, goats, and sheep.
- Additional protein, vitamins and minerals are needed to ensure nutrition for animals.
- Cassava residue can be fermented to improve the nutritional value and digestibility of animals.

• Cassava peel:

- Can be used as raw food for cattle, goats, and sheep.
- Additional protein, vitamins and minerals are needed to ensure nutrition for pets.
- Cassava peels can be mixed with other ingredients to produce pellets for livestock and poultry.

Attention:

• It is necessary to properly handle cassava by-products before using them as animal feed to remove toxins and ensure safety for animals.
• The rate of using cassava by-products in animal feed should be consistent with the nutritional needs of each animal type and age of development.
